Procrastination

A very lovely lady by the name of Hema, once gave me a book. I am tempting fate here by say this, as I probably never returned it. If so Hema, I am very sorry. You see I am never that good at doing anything I should. I will happily fill my time with mundane little tasks that I get a mild amount of enjoyment from doing, therefore filling my time with things that really don't need my attention. The outcome of this is that I then have little or no time for the things that matter.

Eat That Frog is a book about procrastination. An old saying is that "If the first thing you do each morning is to eat a live frog, then you can go through the day with the satisfaction of knowing that is is probably the worst thing that is going to happen to you all day long!" Your 'frog' is the one thing you are most likely to keep putting off if you don't do something about it now! It is also the one task that can have the greatest positive impact on your life if you do it now!

So why do we put these things off? It has been the bane of my life for as long as I can remember and only now at almost 40 I am starting to finally get hold of this situation and do something about it. My (almost) 15 year old daughter knows about procrastination too well. I didn't even know the word at her age. Hopefully she will learn to eat her frogs soon.

I am currenlty writing in this blog rather than dealing with something I know I need to do, as this is more enjoyable. But hey, it is my lunch break. Not really worthy of a page in the magazine, but perhaps just a by-line somewhere near the back.

Patience

I wouldn't say I have ever really found myself to be particularly patient. I don't like waiting for things, it doesn't feel good and sometimes I get frustrated and annoyed. Hardly front cover stuff this I know, but still it really bothers me so instead of sitting here squeezing on the stress ball, and grinding my teeth, I thought I would share.

So waiting for things like phone calls or letters, some sort of communication can be frustrating but easy to distract yourself away from while waiting. Waiting for results of exams or tests and the likes can be annoying. It feels like someone else knows what you want to know but they just won't tell you to be awkward, which isn't the case.

Waiting for Summer (or even Spring) has been the hardest thing this year. Just to be able to spend the evening at home WITHOUT the heating on full blast has been a myth that never seems to happen. The first bumble bee of the year found it's way into the bedroom the other day. A sure sign of better weather to come. At last, not a day too soon. I want to camp, swim outdoors, go walking without a coat and gloves. In fact the sun is shining right now.

Stop Making Sense of Sound

So tonight in rehearsals I had the most amazing experience of singing Talking Heads songs with the wonderful Sense of Sound Singers of which I am very proud to be a member of. Many things happened tonight, I opened my mouth a bit wider and noisier than normally and I wasn't singing, in other words I put my foot in it and didn't really mean what I said. I did apologise and hopefully have made amends although only verbally at this point.

So we sang 'Life During Wartime' not perhaps the best known from the album 'Stop Making Sense' but what song could fail to evoke incredible feelings and memories regarding this amazing album. I really enjoyed how fast we are now learning new music, our repertoire is growing faster by the day. Page 4 at least in B.W.M. of course.

Chinese New Year in Liverpool

So yeah, I've been to the Chinese New Year celebrations in Liverpool a few times now. It's really noisy and the smells are amazing. Chinese food street vendors are fantastic, noodles with chicken and sui mai. Mmmmmmm. I took my daughter when she was younger and she cried at all of the noise. The crowds are amazing, I can't wait to go again. Worthy of about a page 15 in Big Wow Magazine by my reckoning.
